    Mini Scope Herbst

The Mini Scope Herbst appliance provides an exceptional function in class II orthodontic correction. This appliance repositions the mandible forward to allow for the adaptation of the muscular, skeletal and dental components utilizing a telescopic element on the buccal. The telescoping mechanism will not disengage like a traditional Herbst® appliance, substantially reducing the number of emergency appointments. The mini-scope arms are secured using the provided Apple core screws which provide exceptional mobility and free lateral movement reducing appliance breakage. We recommend the Herbst for those difficult patients who have compliance issues with removable appliances.

    Phase 1 Retainer

This retainer is used to hold maxillary after expansion and phase I treatment. The purpose is to stabilize the arch and retain the erupted permanent teeth. There are variations, but the goal is to hold the central and lateral incisors along with the first molars. We use a 2-2 bow with or without a loop, or a 3-3 bow with spurs on the distal of the laterals. Adams clasps are best suited to allow exfoliation of the deciduous teeth and maintain retention. It is also recommended to relieve the lingual acrylic in the premolar area.

    Posterior Bite Plate

A posterior bite plate can be added to the upper or lower arch to aid in the correction of anterior open bites by discluding the anterior teeth to allow additional eruption and relative intrusion of the posterior teeth. The appliance can be used in conjunction with an expansion screw for arch development.

Posterior bite plates can also be added to a Hawley retainer with anterior springs to correct teeth trapped in cross-bite.

    Quad Helix

The Quad Helix can be constructed as a fixed or a removable appliance using .036 wire. It is used to widen the arch form with the aid of helices bent at the four corners of the appliance and lingual wires extending anteriorly. All of our Quad appliances are bent from straight wire allowing us to contour the vault accordingly while maintaining the integrity of the wire compared to pre-bent. Indications include all cross bites that need expansion, mild expansion in mixed dentition cases, Class III cases that need expansion, Class II cases, and cleft palate patients. A tongue crib and facemask hooks can be incorporated into the design.
